Binti Jua was released in 1996, when a 3-year-old boy fell into the gorilla pit at Chicago’s Brookfield Zoo.
⠀
At the moment of the fall, the boy hit his head and fainted. At that moment, panic began among zoo visitors.
People started screaming when they saw a gorilla approaching, believing it could hurt the fainted child.
⠀
Contrary to what everyone imagined, the gorilla approached the child and, like a protective mother,
held him in her lap, pushed the other gorillas present in the ditch, and headed for the door through which the keepers had access.
⠀
There, he stopped and began shaking the child until he heard the sound of the caretakers opening the door.
At that moment, the 8-year-old gorilla affectionately left the toddler lying on the floor and walked away so they could get help.
